You should consider this reading ESSENTIAL if you haven’t studied probability before or it’s been a while (at least skim through it!). We’re adding this the readings in Module 7 to give you some time to look at it before we really need it in Module 9 – mostly we need the concepts of conditional probability and conditional independence. You don’t need to do all the exercises though doing them will certainly help consolidate your understanding.
If you want some more content/videos on this, we’d recommend the unit on Probability from Khan Academy. It is rather a lot of content, so it’s fine if you just go over the basics for Speech Processing, but if you’re going on to do more speech/language tech, it’s well worth getting a grips on this – especially the notion of conditional probability.
