› Forums › Foundations of speech › Acoustics › sp-m1-1-sounds-signals: question about registers
In 1.2 periodicity and pitch, the second question is:
– Look at the violin at different registers:
— Measure the pitch using praat
— What’s the difference in Hz
— What’s the difference in semitones?
What is the meaning of different registers and how could I do that, looking at the spectrum of a single file or use 3 violin files called violin_A3_15, violin_A4_05 and violin_A4_05_fortissimo ?
Sorry I forgot to include the link the audio for that exercise! It should be the difference between violin_A3_15 and violin_A4_05.
I’ve updated the notebook in the github repository:
https://github.com/laic/uoe_speech_processing_course/blob/master/signals/sp-m1-1-sounds-signals.ipynb
I’ve also included a link to a semitone calculator there: http://www.homepages.ucl.ac.uk/~sslyjjt/speech/semitone.html
But the main thing is just to compare those two files.
