Hi all,
The PPLS AT lab tech support are checking the machines there. It seems that many are asleep but have people logged in which is preventing other people from using the machines. They are emailing people logged into these computers to make sure they can restart the computers to make them available to other people. So, if you have finished with your session, please do logout!
Please note that you have to actually logout of your remote desktop session and not just close VNC. Here’s a a note from tech support explaining:
Connecting to those computers is basically a two stage process – 1.) logging in to VNC 2.) logging in to the computer. That also means that when disconnecting the same should be done in reverse – 1) logging out of the computer 2.) disconnecting from VNC. And its here where it seems that students simply just disconnect form VNC without logging out. As instructions for disconnecting from a machine:
- Click the power icon on the top right of the screen
- Click your username
- Click on log out
- Once that’s done and a login screen is displayed, disconnect/close VNC.
Hopefully most of you have already done most of your analysis with festival now, but you can also find some tips on using ssh instead here: https://speech.zone/forums/topic/no-remote-desktops-available/#post-15182
cheers,
Catherine
