Normally when we record speech, we record the sounds as altered by the vocal tract, but what is the original waveform produced directly by the opening and closing of the vocal cords? Can it be easily described by a mathematical model? If so, what is the model? I feel like it would be something like a sawtooth wave, but not sure.
Never mind, I found the answer in Ladefoged (Ch.7 102,103). Turns out it is basically a sawtooth-type waveform after all.
