I used the word count provided by Overleaf in assignment1 and got feedback saying that ‘Please provide your own word count next time’. The word count on Turnitin is a lot higher than overleaf counts. Should we instead use the word count Turnitin provide?
The reason why Turnitin counts a few hundred more words than Overleaf is most likely because the word count of the reference is also counted in the body. In the length limits section of the formatting instructions of the assessment, it is clearly stated that the bibliography is not counted in the total number of words. I’m wondering if being marked in the CW1 feedback as more than 2000+10% which is 2200 words will have a negative impact on my score? If so, how can I claim to remove the impact?
Please state the word count on the first page of your assignment, and also include it in the name of the submission (as the instructions state). Using the word count from Overleaf is perfectly acceptable. If that word count is within the limit, you will not be penalised.
