Hello,
I am trying to save a wav file from Festival using
(utt.save.wave uttname “uttname.wav” ‘riff) and I keep getting an error message reading: SIOD ERROR bad function : #<Utterance 0xa425a60>. I’m not sure what to do.

Can you post the complete steps needed to reproduce this, from starting festival onwards.
I quit the terminal and restarted festival and the issue cleared up. Sorry for the trouble
I had a similar error – with this sentence on both my Mac and using the ppls machine
festival> (set! car (Utterance Text "My car's engine's not new."))
#<Utterance 0x7f353a315750>
festival> (utt.synth car)
SIOD ERROR: bad function : #<Utterance 0x9b04210>
