Clustering, or regression?

Two different ways to understand how the HMMs are parameterised.

The conventional view
It's usual to describe the system as a set of context-dependent HMMs.
Describing it as a regression problem
Another way to think about HMM synthesis is as a regression from linguistic features to acoustic parameters.
